Lange, sehr ausführliche Erarbeitung der Unterschiede zwischen Reegan und Leddy. Wird noch bewertet. Wie es ausging und natürlich die Korrekturen werde ich dann reinstellen.

jaa das sollte man wissen..und halt den titel erklären könnte, also was "high ground" bedeutet....
für die, die es nicht wissen: high ground = hohe moralische stufe, und der master meint damit, dass die aus dem drof da nicht so "schlau" wie die aus der stadt (senator reagan) sind, aber dafür einen sehr viel höheren moralischen status haben.

Hey, habe auch noch eine Zusammenfassung von 'High Ground'
Summary
- Setting: 1980's, rural Ireland, small village, deep countryside
- Perspective of the narrator: First- person- narrator (Moran)
In the present
- Students celebrating their school-leaving qualification
- Moran (Protagonist) kisses away the whole night with his girlfriend (Irish girl)
- The next evening he goes out to the lake where Senator Eddie Reegan waits for him, because he wants to offer the job as Principal of Moran’s former school
- Dilemma: Kind of private relationship (‘star pupils’) between the current Principal Master Leddy who would have to be removed from his office and Moran who has to decide whether he takes the job or not
- Senator Reegan acts out of self-interest, because his sons are visiting this school and Master Leddy became kind of senile in his eyes because of his alcohol consumption
Three days before
- Moran drops in Master Leddys’ untidy but lovely decorated house
- Afterwards Moran accompanies Leddy to a pub in town while the Master speaks highly about the quality of Moran’s character (p.e. loyalty, charm, reliability) what puts Moran in a difficult situation
- Arriving at the pub, Master Leddy does not want Moran to come with him into the pub, because he is ashamed of being addicted to alcohol
Back in the present
- Conversation between Senator Reegan and Moran
- Moran does not want to stab Master Leddy in the back, but Reegan appeals to his conscience and puts pressure on him
- Reegan tries to make clear to Moran that he does not have to care about Master Leddy, because he is an alcoholic
- Back home Moran goes out again to get some water
- On the way he overhears a conversation between the Master and some other teachers who talk about their students
- At last, the short story has an open end and it is up to the reader to answer the question whether Moran takes the job as Principal or leave the city by himself
