Hey ihr,
was habt ihr denn zu dem Thema gemacht, wie man den AD heute sieht? Also ob er gescheitert ist, oder nicht? Wir haben dazu Death of a Salesman gelesen. Ich habe dazu auch schon einige Stichpunkte, aber ich bin mir etwas unschlüssig darüber, ob das ausreicht. Vielleicht könnt ihr ja was ergänzen?!
Also früher waren die Werte des AD Equality and Individualism. Das bedeutete nicht unbedingt materieller Wohlstand, ein Millionär zu werden, oder wie Willy Loman so erfolgreich zu werden wie nur möglich, sondern vielmehr die Tatsache akzeptiert zu werden, egal wo man her kann, welche Religion oder Hautfarbe man hatte, ob man reich oder arm war, oder welcher sozialen Schicht man angehört hat. Es ging um Akzeptanz und Brüderlichkeit und daraus resultierte dann auch der Individualism, aber nicht unbedingt die Tatsache ein Millionär zu werden.
Heute isind die Werte des AD etwas verloren gegangen. Viele Amerikaner glauben, der AD bedeute die Besten und Erfolgreichsten zu sein. Alles dreht sich nur noch um materiellen Wohlstand. Das Einzige was vom AD noch übrig ist ''You can make it from rags to riches, You can turn one dollar into a million''. Ein Zitat, dass dazu passt ist: ''Mehr Schein als Sein''. Für die Amerikaner zählt reich auszusehen und somit in die Gesellschaft zu passen, die vom materiellen Wohlstand geprägt ist. So fahren sie einen rießen SUV, aber haben ihn nicht abbezahlt.
- Hispanics->exploitation, racism, forced into ethnic ghettos, discrimination -> no equality
- Because of Ghettos -> no integration -> no education ->high unemployment -> poverty
- Inhuman society -> no social services, reckless -> no chances for ill or ''silly'' people

Nur zu!wir haben da noch nen Text zur Krise 2008/09 gelesen. Der AD beinhaltet ja auch für viele, ein eigenes Haus zu besitzen etc., was ja letztendlich zum Crash geführt hat..
Ich stimme dir soweit zu.
Den Glaube an den Amerikansichen Traum gibt es immernoch, da der Optimismus vieler Menschen dort nicht verloren geht (Beispiel Tortilla Curtain).
According to American citizens and also many immigrants in America, they want to be responsible for themselfes. Thus, poverty is a result how they behave. In the point of view of people living in the USA the state is not responsible for poverty and awful circumstances.
Several people and especially Hispanc immigrants in the USA are not able to receive several concepts of the American Dream such as equality or the idea to go from rags to riches trough hard work because they have more disadvantages. For instance, they have bad educations and some even no knowledge of language.Additionally, the American Dream depends on fortune and education. One thing which should not be neglected is that especially illegal aliens do not have the same opportunities because they are illegal and faced with xenophobia. Consequently, illegal Hispanics officially are not allowed to work and so to go from rags to riches trough hard work. Moreover, they are exploited and American citizens use them for cheap disposable labour. Hence, they are also called 'the new Black's ' which shows the negative approach toward Hispanics in America.
Another important point to mention is that the idea of a melting pot where all nations melt together to one nation did never turn into reality. Additionally, the African Americans were excluded from the idea of a melting pot from the beginning. The USA has the largest Hispanic population next to Mexico itself. Accordingly, Mexican people in America favour to maintain their customs and traditions. Thus, the idea of a melting pot is now being replaced by the idea of a salad bowl where immigrants are able to preserve their cultural heritage. However, American citizens still facvour the idea of assimilation. This is also one reason for their negative approach towards immigrants.
Furthermore, many people in America are living in awful circumstances because in the United States there is no welfare state which helps people in need. In particular, illegal immigrants have to fight for survival. For instance, the novel 'Tortilla Curtain' describes a scenario where a Mexican couple has to steal food to survive because they do not have enough money although they work hard. Hence, they live the American Nightmare. This is why the idea of a classless society did also not turn into reality because there is a big gap between poor and rich.
Ja, sowas halt zu AD und Hispanics würde ich mal sagen.
Ansonsten kannst du ja nichts wirklich damit verbinden...
Also einige Konzepte gelten eben nicht für jeden, dennoch halten alle am Glauben fest ud wollen auch keinen welfare state so richtig..

Und positives?
-less government -> many oppoertunities, less restirictions -> self-realization
-und noch Obama als Beispiel, dass Equality doch etwas funktioniert? ->acceptance of blacks
-dass es vllt trotzdem manche schaffen aufzusteigen?
gibt es sonst noch positives, außer vllt die Hoffnung, die der AD den Menschen gibt..halt niemals aufzugeben usw?

gibt es sonst noch positives, außer vllt die Hoffnung, die der AD den Menschen gibt..halt niemals aufzugeben usw?
Ich würde noch ergänzen, dass der amerikanische traum heute noch inner nicht erreicht bzw. Nicht Komplett erreicht wurde Weil die klassegesellschaft noch herrscht, sowie die "rassentrennung" (blacks and whites). Desweiteren ist die lücke zwischen arm und reich sehr groß in den USA.
