Nochmal zum Thema Armenviertel Harlem vs. Bronx..
Der Film spielt ja nicht in der heutigen Zeit und in NYC ändert es sich alle paar Jahre, wo genau jetzt das Armenviertel ist, bzw. es gibt verschiedene Armenviertel. In den Armenvierteln leben häufig Künstler, weil sie nicht so viel Geld haben, aber wenn sie berühmt werden und dort ihre Musik machen, wird das Viertel halt beliebter und die Wohnungen teurer und die Menschen reicher, die da wohnen..
So stands jedenfalls im Reiseführer, als wir in NYC waren ;-)

Freiheit - da könnte man darauf schließen das Jamal die Chance hat sich zu entscheiden, sozusagen die Freiheit hat sich für die Elite Schule zu entscheiden, obwohl das ja zunächst (man erinnere sich an diese Regel er müsse das Basketballspiel gewinnen sonst fliegt er) eingeschränkt ist. Aber immerhin bekam er so eine Chance und konnte diese nutzen.

erinnert mich an die Theorie von Booker.T.Washington :

Furthermore he was convinced that equality was a matter of time.
That fits into the development of Jamall!

-> has fallen in love with him, supports him wherever she can
- John Colderidge, one of the students, tries to advise him to held him cope with the
teachers
- Forrester tries to support his ambition to become a writer
- Finally Crawford is overruled (überstimmt) withrespect to the plagiarism affair
-> Jamal is allowed to continue
Peer pressure
- in the beginning Jamal submits to peer pressure
-> doesn´t talk with his friends about his hobby and his dream
- he accepts their challenge: a test of courage
Growing up: fatherless boy -> the need of a role model - developing his individual identity
- Forrester is something like a father figure for Jamal
-> whose own father has left the family
-> he helps him to find out what he really wants in life
-> not to submit to the race and class prejudice of other people, but to
develop self- esteem and to be self-confident and self-assured (he provokes
him and expects him to react with self-confidence)
- To realize his dream of becoming a writer, not to allow prejudiced people to keep him
“in his place”
- to take his own decisions and not to give in to pressure (the pressure of Claire´s father
puts on him who promises him that he may continue his studies at this elite college if
he wins the game
-> but Jamal misses two shots deliberately
- Jamal does not allow anybody to mould him the way they would like see him
